Full Tour Details

Geneva is often called the diplomatic capital of the world, but behind that reputation lies a fascinating intersection of science, global politics, and international cooperation. This fully guided Geneva CERN & United Nations private day tour brings these worlds together through exclusive access.

Combining a visit to CERN with a Geneva United Nations private tour and a guided exploration of the international district, this experience is designed as one of our most insightful Geneva day tours. As with all our Swiss private tours, the day is fully private and curated with seamless precision.

Schedule

1
Private Meet & Pickup

Your driver meets you directly at your Geneva hotel before beginning a comfortable limousine transfer toward the city’s International District.

During the drive, your guide introduces Geneva’s remarkable international role. Despite its modest size, the city hosts dozens of international organisations and diplomatic missions. This introduction provides context for the day ahead, explaining how Geneva became known worldwide as the “Capital of Peace.”

2
United Nations VIP District Tour

The morning begins with a curated Geneva United Nations private tour, centred around the Palais des Nations – the European headquarters of the United Nations. Your guide leads both a driving and walking exploration through the diplomatic enclave. You’ll learn about the origins of the League of Nations, founded after the First World War in an attempt to maintain global peace.

Nearby stands the iconic Broken Chair monument. Rising twelve metres high, this sculpture symbolises the international movement against landmines and remains one of Geneva’s most powerful humanitarian landmarks.

As you continue through the district, you’ll pass major institutions including the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the World Health Organisation, and the World Trade Organisation. Each stop reveals how Geneva quietly influences global affairs.

3
CERN Science Gateway Experience

From diplomacy to science, the day continues with a private limousine transfer from Geneva’s international district to the CERN campus on the outskirts of the city..

Upon arrival, you’ll meet a specialist CERN guide who introduces the CERN Science Gateway, a striking visitor centre designed by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano. The architecture itself is remarkable, with elevated tubular structures connected by bridges.

Inside, immersive exhibitions introduce the research taking place. Your private guide walks you through the “Discover CERN” and “Our Universe” pavilions, explaining how scientists explore questions about the origins of matter and the structure of the universe.

Central to this story is the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest particle accelerator. This underground ring spans 27 kilometres and allows physicists to recreate conditions similar to those immediately after the Big Bang. The experience also includes interactive science demonstrations where complex physics concepts become surprisingly accessible.

4
Lunch: Diplomatic Favourite or CERN Cafeteria

Midday brings a relaxed pause for lunch, with two distinctive options depending on your preference. Many guests choose a lunch at a historic restaurant popular with diplomats and international officials.

Alternatively, you may opt for a unique “Lunch with a Scientist” experience within the CERN campus cafeteria, subject to availability. This informal setting allows visitors to experience the daily atmosphere of the research community.

5
Lake Geneva Shoreline & Iconic Landmarks

Returning to the city centre, your driver brings you along Lake Geneva’s elegant waterfront. Here you’ll visit the famous Jet d’Eau, one of Geneva’s most recognisable landmarks. Rising 140 metres above the lake, the fountain has become a symbol of the city.

Nearby stands the Flower Clock (L’Horloge Fleurie), a tribute to Geneva’s watchmaking heritage. Made from thousands of seasonal plants, the clock represents the city’s long tradition of precision craftsmanship. These landmarks provide the classic photo moments many travellers seek during Geneva day tours.

6
Wrap-Up & Return

As the afternoon draws to a close, your private driver takes you back to your hotel. Alternatively, guests may choose to finish the day along Rue du Rhône, Geneva’s luxury shopping street, home to prestigious watchmakers and boutiques.

The experience concludes with a deeper understanding of the city – not only as a scenic lakeside destination, but as a place where science, diplomacy, and culture meet.

My family visited Switzerland for ten days and had an unforgettable trip. I dealt primarily with Jana but also received assistance from Joshua and Fabienne. We had an idea of certain places we wanted to see but also received invaluable guidance on beautiful places and hidden gems.

Starting with a tour of Old Town Zurich, we went on to enjoy Appenzell, Lucerne, Mt Titlis, Jungfraujoch, Gimmelwald, the Schilthorn, Interlaken, the Goldenpass Express, Thun and Bern.

Our guides Bruno and Elia were personable, knowledgeable, and professional. They ensured we saw as much as possible at our preferred pace.

They also provided excellent lodging and dining recommendations, and the drivers were professional and safe. We never had to think about logistics. I can’t recommend Luxury Tours Switzerland enough.

The itinerary was prepared with amazing detail and provided on a great app.

The most impactful element of our holiday was our tour guide Manuel. He took us to places we would have never seen on our own and prepared delicious snacks daily. Manuel’s love and enthusiasm for his country made him an incredible ambassador and a pleasure to travel with.
